West Indies Cricket Team ended their ICC World Cup 2019 campaign with a 23-run win over Afghanistan at Headingley in Leeds. They have had a dismal run in the tournament winning only two games against Pakistan in their opener and their last outing.
The team from the Caribbean Islands have struggled mainly due to their batsmen who have failed to apply themselves and rally behind their bowlers. The bowlers, on the other hand, have done a fair job with Sheldon Cottrell leading the pack. Their batting came into the party in the last match of the tournament when things were over for them. West Indies skipper Jason Holder feel they lacked consistency which had cost them in many games.
“I think inconsistency let us down. Our fielding has a lot to improve,” Holder said after their game against Afghanistan.
This West Indies team have a lot of young cricketers who will take the experience from here and come back stronger in their upcoming fixtures.
Here is the squad rating of the West Indies Cricket team from the ICC World Cup 2019:
Chris Gayle (5/10)
Chris Gayle, in all likelihood, has played his last World Cup game. He has an awful tournament in England which sums up West Indies campaign in this edition of the marquee tournament. He has managed to score only two half-centuries and has thrown away after getting starts in most of the matches.
Gayle, who announced his retirement after the World Cup, has reversed his decision to play the series against India before bidding farewell to cricket.
