Andrew Tye was part of Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2015. After a two-year suspension for the next two seasons, Chennai Super Kings had a chance to retain two of its overseas players in the 2018 edition. The MS Dhoni-led side went ahead of Faf du Plessis and Dwayne Bravo.

However, Andrew Tye came up with a spectacular performance in the 2018 edition. Playing for Kings XI Punjab, he scalped most 24 wickets in the season at an economy of 8. The Australian pacer also won the purple cap after finishing as the highest wicket-taker.
