Afghanistan’s premium wrist-spinner Rashid Khan has already made a name for himself in the international circuit. The young bowler has worked his way up quite tremendously over the past couple of years in the gentleman’s game.
Rashid’s bag of tricks is still proving something that the best batsmen in the world are trying to figure out. He is undoubtedly the best spinner in the limited-overs fold. Well, to be precise, he has the stats to back it up as well.
At such an age, many would dream to make debut in international cricket. However, the curious case of Rashid is quite different.
The 19-year-old Rashid has already become the captain for his national team. He went on to play 43 One-day Internationals and made a name for himself as the best spinner going around at the moment.
Achieving the milestones, Rashid is also the first ranked bowler in Twenty20 internationals and second-ranked bowler in the fifty-over format. He has already played a pivotal role in Indian Premier League (IPL), Big Bash League (BBL) and Caribbean Premier League (CPL) respectively.
Apart from these accomplishments, he also became the youngest cricketer to play 100 Twenty20 games.
Rashid just did not play these 100 T20 games for no reason. His staggering economy rate of 5.92 in the shortest format coupled with his wicket-taking ability which subsequently made him the most wanted spinner in the world.
Just to take you more into his T20 stats, he took an impressive 147 wickets in those 100 games at an average of 15.64.
In a format that is primarily dominated by batsmen, Rashid’s stats are truly appreciable.
Then, What Makes Rashid Khan So special?
Rashid’s ability to create problems with his speed and variations made him tough to pick for even the best in business. When he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2017, many thought he could be a good prospect for the team in the future.
But the Afghan spinner simply rose to the occasion and delivered for his team in style. He was one of the best bowlers in his debut season while continuing his good work in the IPL 2018.
Exciting Rashid is no fluke and is here to stay for a long time. Of course, we have seen spinners like Ajantha Mendis in the past, who ultimately ran out of their tricks.
What makes Rashid special is, he keeps his weapons intact and does not get desperate for wickets, even while going for runs.
The ace bowler knows exactly when to use his special deliveries which made his sustain in the ever-changing game of cricket.
There has not been a supreme bowler in world cricket since Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan retired from the international cricket.
