The franchise was again led by Adam Gilchrist in the 2nd edition of IPL. The team won the title after defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final. The team played 16 matches, out of which they won 9 and lost 7. They accounted for 2408 runs in the season, most than any other team. Adam Gilchrist was the highest run-getter for the team with 495 runs in 16 innings. He was the 2nd highest run-scorer overall.
