England take on West Indies for a three-Test match series between March 8 to 28. The first Test begins from March 8 in Antigua and West Indies at home are eyeing to replicate the heroics of beating England as they did when they last visited the Caribbean shores.

Windies beat England 2-1 the last time England played here in 2019. Windies coach Phil Simmons has urged his players to play as a group ad help each other out in the upcoming series.

West Indies coach Phil Simmons has been very vocal about his team’s batsmen doing the job for the bowlers and helping them in the process. He said that the team can take confidence out of their last Test series win over England back in 2019.

“I think the last time England were here, and we beat them, the opening pair was Kraigg and John Campbell. So let’s hope that’s a good omen for us, because they are back together and they gave the team some good starts.

“So that’s what we’ve been talking about, getting a good start and then making sure that the top four put things together and not leave it for the middle and lower order,” Simmons said.

The West Indies coach further said that the batters will have to bat long in the Test series and ensure that they et the game up for the bowlers to make inroads.

“That’s been the aspect of the five-day camp that we had, addressing the fact that batsmen need to bat long, we need to make sure we give the bowlers something to work with. And I think that the camp went well, so I expect good things from them,” Simmons further added.

Both teams had previously played a T20I series to kick off the tout West Indies won the series 3-2 to set up the Test series which is a part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship 2021-23. West Indies are England are the bottom two teams in the WTC points table as of March 6, 2022.
