England and West Indies are all set to square up against each other in a three-match Test series. The first Test is scheduled to be played from 8th March to 12th March 2022 at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. England are coming into the series on the back of a humiliating Ashes series defeat in Australia.
They would be looking to get back to winning ways. Joe Root and Co. have announced a 12-member squad for the first Test. Ollie Robinson, who was earlier part of the squad, has now been ruled out due to injury. Saqib Mahmood has replaced him and he might make his Test debut heading into the first Test of the series.
As far as the batting is concerned, two young openers will be at the crease for England, namely Zak Crawely and Alex Lees. Joe Root will come at number three, while England are likely to give the number four position to Daniel Lawrence. Both Chris Woakes and Craig Overton are part of the 12-member squad for the first Test. The bowling unit further consists of Mark Wood and Jack Leach. Besides, Ben Foakes will don the wicket-keeping gloves.
West Indies, on the other hand, would be confident of winning the first Test. They have also made quite a few changes in the squad. 25-year old Anderson Phillip has been added in the 13-member squad for the first Test.
He was outstanding in the West Indies Championship, picking the most wickets after 2 rounds of the competition. The bowling unit further have the likes of Kemar Roach, Alzarri Joseph, Jayden Seales etc. It is pertinent to note that Shannon Gabriel has been ruled out of the first Test due to a hamstring injury.
John Campbell has been added into the squad, while the likes of Shai Hope and Roston Chase failed to make the cut. The onus for scoring the bulk of the runs will be on the shoulders of Kraigg Brathwaite, Jermaine Blackwood, Nkrumah Bonner, and Shamarh Brooks. Joshua de Silva will continue to don the wicket-keeping gloves.
