England takes on West Indies in the first Test of the three-match series from 8th March to 12th March at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. Both Rory Burns and Haseen Hameed have been dropped from the England squad.
The likes of Zak Crawley and Alex Lees are likely to open the innings for the team. Left-arm batsman, David Malan has also been dropped from the squad, which means Joe Root is likely to come at three, followed by Dan Lawrence, Ben Stokes, and Jonny Bairstow at four, five, and sixth position respectively. Jos Buttler too has failed to make the cut and, thus, Ben Foakes will replace him in the playing XI.
The bowling unit has got the likes of Chris Woakes, Mark Wood, Saqib Mahmood and Craig Overton. Ollie Robinson, who is part of the squad, has been ruled out for the first Test due to injury. As for the spin, Jack Leach is part of the 12-man squad. However, it’s not certainly whether he will be part of the playing XI.
West Indies, on the other hand, would be confident of starting the series with a win. They have got a pretty solid bang unit. The presence of two experienced openers, namely, Kraigg Brathwaite and Jermaine Blackwood should keep the team in good stead. At three will be in-form batsman Nkrumah Bonner, followed by Shamarh Brooks, Kyle Mayers and Jason Holder at four, five, and six respectively. Joshua Da Silva will continue to keep wickets for the squad.
West Indies have a great bowling unit at their disposal. They have got a lot of variety in the squad, having got the likes of Kemar Roach, Alzarri Joseph, Veerasammy Permaul and Aderson Phillip. It will be interesting to see who all makes it into the playing XI.
