South African cricketer Faf Du Plessis has weighed in on the current situation of the pandemic that has brought almost everything to a halt. With all cricketing events forced to be suspended in response to the fears of COVID-19, it remains uncertain when the sport would resume. As far as the 2020 T20 World Cup goes, Du Plessis suggests that players be isolated for a couple of weeks before and after the competition.

It remains highly uncertain when this virus would subside. Because of the deadly disease, dank skies linger over the fate of the mega event, scheduled to take place down under in October. But if the tournament is to take place, the South African believes that players must be quarantined for two weeks each. A couple of weeks after reaching Australia and two weeks post returning to their nations.

As Du Plessis engaged in a live Facebook session with Tamim Iqbal, he expressed grave concerns, especially over players from various countries coming to Australia. But he believes that the tournament can take place after two weeks of quarantine. At the same time, unsureness hovers over the rainbow nation’s beginning of operations.

“I am not sure… reading that travelling is going to be an issue for lots of countries and they are talking about December or January. But even if Australia is not affected like other countries, to get people from Bangladesh, South Africa or India where there is more danger, obviously it’s a health risk to them. But you can go in before the tournament (for) two weeks isolation and then play the tournament and afterwards two weeks isolation. But I don’t know when South Africa will open their travel ban because we can’t go there like old days on boats.” Faf Du Plessis said as quoted by Cricbuzz.

The 35-year old, who stepped down as Proteas‘ captain admitted that he loves the role of leadership and likes mentoring the youngsters. Du Plessis looks upon himself as a leader first and then a player. But he acknowledges the need for someone else to step in and take the side forward.

“I love captaincy, it is a part of who I am. I have captained since the age of 13. I still look at myself as a leader before a player, so I enjoy that more than anything else. I will always miss it, but I do think that the time has come for me to move on to a position of growing other leaders, something that I feel is lacking in our system.” he said in an interview released by Cricket South Africa.
