IND vs NZ ICC T20 World Cup 2021 Match 28  Preview:

JULY 9, 2019, ICC WORLD CUP Semi-Final

JUNE 18-23, 2021 ICC TEST CHAMPIONSHIP Finals

OCTOBER 31, 2021 Virtual Knockout of ICC T20 World Cup

In about two years, these sides are meeting for the third time at an important ICC World Cup championship game.

After a humiliating defeat against their arch-rivals Pakistan by 10 wickets, the Kohli-led Team India will be squaring off against the Kiwis for their second league stage game on the 31st of October at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

New Zealand, too, is coming off a defeat against Pakistan in their first league stage match. And this makes it an even more crucial encounter from the semi-finals perspective.

India played Pakistan on the 24th of October at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Shaheen Afridi blew up the Indian openers in a span of just 7 balls, and India was 6-2 after 2.1.

From the early destruction, Virat Kohli (57) and Rishabh Pant (39) tried to recover things to some extent with the bat. India managed 151 runs at the end of 20 overs.

In what was never an India day, their bowling acted as a catalyst and the Indian bowlers failed to hunt even a single scalp. The opening duo of Pakistan (Babar Azam-Mohammad Rizwan) came in too handy and finished the game with 13 balls to spare. This was the first occasion in World Cups where India faced a defeat against Pakistan over their rivalry of the past 30 years in the iconic ICC World Cup tournaments. This was also the first time that Pakistan won a T20I by 10 wickets and India lost a T20I by 10 wickets.

The journey of the hungry Pakistan side didn’t end with the win against India. They went on to hunt the ICC Test Championship winners New Zealand in their next game by 5 wickets at Sharjah. Haris Rauf (4 wickets) ran through the batting order of the Kiwis and restricted them to a mere 134. None of the Kiwi batters crossed even the 30-run mark.

However, their bowling was better than the Indian side and their bowlers had kept the team in the hunt until the penultimate over. Ish Sodhi picked a couple of wickets while Southee, Boult and Santner grabbed a wicket each.

India and New Zealand have met each other a total of 16 times in the shortest format of the game, with each team winning 8 games. However, India has never won a game against New Zealand in World Cups after 2003. In ICC T20 World Cups, India faced them twice and lost on both occasions (2007 & 2016). The last time they met, India was bundled out for a mere 79.

Both the teams have played just one game in this tournament so far and lost to the same opponent. New Zealand is standing at the 4th spot on the table whereas India is standing at a spot even below the Kiwis (5th) due to their net run rate.

These two teams recently met in the finals of the ICC Test Championship, where India faced another defeat at the hands of the Kiwis. India would be glancing to avenge not only the previous defeats against New Zealand but also gain momentum for redemption in the ongoing tournament. New Zealand, on the other hand, would be hoping to keep its domination against India on and breathing.

The loser of this game will be on the verge of a knockout. Both, India and New Zealand will be going all guns ablaze in this match as this is a do-or-die match.
