Graeme Cremer Ruled Out of South Africa and Bangladesh Tour Due to Knee Surgery

Zimbabwe leg-spinning all-rounder Graeme Cremer who is also the former national skipper will miss the upcoming tours of South Africa and Bangladesh after undergoing knee surgery.  Well, the news was made public by the Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) on Sunday (September 2).

Cremer is an excellent bowler, and his absence will be felt in the upcoming two tours. It will be tough for the African minnows to prove their worth in South Africa.

Bangladesh is expected to be a more competitive series. Hence Cremer’s absence might be a major factor in the upcoming series.

Cremer was sacked as the skipper of the Zimbabwe team after they failed to qualify for the 2019 ICC World Cup. He has been struggling with knee issues over a substantial period. The injury got aggravated when he was preparing himself for the upcoming tours of Bangladesh and South Africa. He underwent surgery last week.

Graeme Cremer had earlier complained of pain:

“Following months of knee discomfort and pain, with conservative interventions failing to bring relief from the symptoms, Cremer finally went for knee surgery on the 23rd of August,” national team physiotherapist Anesu Mupotaringa was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

 

“The surgery went well, and Cremer is now recovering well at home. We are looking at minimum six-eight weeks before he can return to action, which definitely rules him out of the South Africa and Bangladesh tours,” he added.

Meanwhile Zimbabwe’s fast bowler Kyle Jarvis injured his bowling hand during the Twenty20 International tri-series game against Pakistan. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation and has joined the training camp.

Another all-rounder Solomon Mire has also recovered fully from the ankle injury.

“Jarvis is recovering very well following his second operation on his fractured thumb in Cape Town. He has now started doing light bowling and batting drills with the team, and we hope he will be ready for South Africa. Mire has now fully recovered from his ankle injury while his gluteal is now strong following successful rehab. He will be ready for our South Africa and Bangladesh tours,” he said.
