Mickey Arthur Joins Pakistan Team In Hyderabad Ahead Of Their 2nd Warm Up Match In ICC World Cup 2023
Pakistan lost to New Zealand in their first warm-up game for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The team struggled a lot with bowling as the bowlers leaked runs and failed to defend a mammoth total of 345. With only a few days left before the World Cup kicks off, Pakistan has a surprise entry to bolster their World Cup preparations.
Team Director Mickey Arthur has joined the Pakistan team in Hyderabad ahead of their second warm-up game against Australia. Mickey Arthur was appointed by the PCB for the Team Director’s post this year in April. However, Arthur has been available for the Pakistan team in a limited capacity given his contract with county team Derbyshire. Mickey was not present during the series against Sri Lanka in July and against Afghanistan in August. He was there in the Asia Cup for only one fixture.
“Team director Mickey Arthur has joined the national men’s side in Hyderabad, India,” the PCB said in a statement. Mickey Arthur was Pakistan’s Head Coach from 2016 to 2019 and was quite successful in his stint. During Arthur’s stint as head coach of the Pakistan team won the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy and became the number one T20 side in the World.

Pakistan Team Failed In Test Cricket Under Mickey Arthur
Even though Pakistan was reaching new heights under Mickey Arthur in limited-overs cricket, the team failed to impress in test cricket, and after Pakistan’s early exit in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, Misbah Ul Haq replaced Mickey Arthur as the team’s head coach. Currently, Pakistan’s head coach is Grant Bradburn and after a disappointing run in the Asia Cup 2023, the team is looking to revive and perform well in the World Cup.
The Pakistan team is currently the No.2 team in the ICC ODI Rankings and they are a strong contender for the top 4 spot in the World Cup. They have not reached the finals of the ICC ODI World Cup since 1992 when they won the title under Imran Khan’s leadership.
Pakistan will face Australia in their second warm-up game before starting their World Cup campaign against the Netherlands on 6th October in Hyderabad. They will face arch-rivals India on 14th October at the Narendra Modi International Stadium in Ahmedabad.
