New Zealand head coach Gary Stead spoke about Trent Boult’s possibility of playing in the ODI World Cup later this year in India. Boult is out of the list of centrally contracted players for New Zealand and is currently playing franchise T20 leagues all across the globe.
Recently Boult expressed his desire to play in the World Cup in India while his stint with the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2023. He picked 13 wickets in 10 games this season.

Trent Boult played an ODI series against Australia before the T20 World Cup last year. Boult was picked for the T20 World Cup squad even though he gave up his central contract earlier in the year.
New Zealand Cricket on Thursday that the senior pacer has signed a “casual playing agreement” after they announced their list of centrally contracted players. On the other hand, Gary Stead is very hopeful of Boult playing a key role for them in the World Cup later this year.

He’s Indicated He’s Available For World Cup: Gaty Stead On Trent Boult
“He has indicated he’s available for the World Cup. “He’s one of the best ODI bowlers in the world so barring injury, I think it’s highly likely he would be part of our squad” Stead said on Thursday.

Boult gave up on playing international cricket for New Zealand willing to spend more time with his family. His recent major involvement in cricket was playing for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL where he spoke more than once about playing in the next ODI World Cup for New Zealand.

Trent Boult’s decision to give up the contract was seen as the start of top players prioritising T20 franchise leagues. Head coach Gary Stead said that Boult’s availability for New Zealand outside the World Cup is still being talked about.
“We’re just still working through that … The conversations are positive, though. It’s just marrying up what works and what ‘readiness’ means from our perspective around test cricket, in particular” said Stead.
Ajaz Patel was the most recent Kiwi cricketer to lose his central contract. He played two tests and no white ball internationals last season.
