Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Najam Sethi questioned the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) decision not to travel to the neighbouring country for the Asia Cup 2023. Najam Sethi pointed out that the other sports team from India has visited Pakistan in recent times.

The PCB proposed a hybrid model for hosting the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup. However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) didn’t show interest in playing in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the summer, just before the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023.

In an interview with the Indian Express, Najam Sethi made a big statement about the Indian team, saying that the BCCI is afraid of losing to Pakistan in both countries.

“The Indian bridge, volleyball and kabaddi teams have visited Pakistan. So, what’s the problem with the Indian cricket team coming to Pakistan?

My suspicion is that India is afraid of losing to Pakistan in India and India is afraid of losing to Pakistan in Pakistan,” Sethi told the Indian Express.

It Might Have Made Sense – Najam Sethi

Sethi responded to the speculations over whether Pakistan would play their World Cup match against Pakistan in Ahmedabad, saying that politics were involved in the venue selection.

“When I heard this statement, I smiled and said to myself – ‘this is one way to make sure we don’t come to India’. If you had said Chennai or Kolkata, it might have made sense,” he added.

“The less said about that, the better. It certainly gave the impression that this is a red herring being thrown in our way to tell us – ‘hey, we are going to play you in Ahmedabad and you watch out.’ You know, who rules Ahmedabad!” he concluded.

Earlier, the Cricbuzz report added that Pakistan will take on India at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, October 15. Pakistan will play the majority of the matches at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
