India will host the 13th edition of the ICC ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 in October and November, and it will be the first ODI tournament to be held entirely in the country. India partially hosted in 1987, 1996, and 2011. The Men in Blue last hosted the ODI World Cup in 2011, when the team lifted the trophy under the leadership of MS Dhoni.

According to reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to host a few World Cup matches at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. The PCA Stadium is among the five stadiums that the BCCI is renovating and upgrading for the upcoming edition of the World Cup at home.

According to the report by the Press Trust of India, the BCCI allocated the funds to improve the stadiums in Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Mohali.

“It will cost Rs 100 crore to revamp the Delhi stadium, Rs 117.17 crore for Hyderabad, Rs 127.47 crore for the iconic Eden Gardens at Kolkata, Rs 79.46 crore for the ageing PCA stadium in Mohali and Rs 78.82 crore for Wankhede. The costs increase drastically if roof work is involved.”

Earlier, the PCA Stadium did not figure in the potential list of venues scheduled to host World Cup matches, but recent developments suggest that Mohali could host some of the matches. The stadium in Punjab is now hosting the home matches of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.

According to reports, sources from the PCA have confirmed that the association will soon receive funds from the BCCI. The report further added that Jay Shah is now keen to schedule some World Cup games in Mohali after the PCA members met the BCCI secretary seeking to organize matches in the mega event.

Team India qualified as the host nation along with the other seven nations in the ICC World Cup Super Standings. The seven teams qualification has already been confirmed, but the final team has not been finalised, with South Africa and Ireland competing for the spot. A total of 48 games will be played in the 46-day tournament, including the knockout rounds and the final.
