Player of the Match Shaheen Afridi had an impactful performance with the ball for Pakistan which helped them restrict India to a below-par total. Skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan then chased the 152-run target down to inflict a massive 10-wicket defeat on India.

Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Shaheen was satisfied with his performance which also helped his team break the World Cup jinx against India. Prior to this, India held a 12-0 record against their arch-rivals but it was broken on Sunday.

This is the first time we’ve beaten India and I feel proud. I knew it would be good for us if I got early wickets and that worked out. My idea was to get as much swing as possible,” Shaheen said.

“We’ll try to take this momentum forward” – Shaheen Afridi

The 21-year-old youngster, Shaheen Afridi, further added that a dominating win like this over India will give them a massive boost heading into the rest of the tournament. It was the perfect start that Pakistan could have hoped for to get their campaign underway.

You don’t get a lot here, but I wanted to get those breakthroughs and gave it 100%. In my opinion, the new ball was difficult to play, so credit goes to Babar and Rizwan. All the teams are difficult at the World Cup, we’ll try to take this momentum forward and make the final,” he added.

Pakistan will next face New Zealand on October 26 in their second match of the Super 12 stage.
