Australia are set to lock horns with their trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand in the most important clash of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 final.

Both the teams displayed an aggressive brand of cricket in their respective semi-final fixtures to knockout group leaders England and Pakistan from the tournament.

Both teams are in the quest of winning their maiden T20 World Cup. New Zealand make their first appearance in the final of the mega event while Australia ended as the runners-up in 2010 T20 WC to England.

Didn’t expect Australia to reach the final: Brad Hogg

Australia lost to England in the group stage but made four out of five wins to make it to the semi-finals on a superior net-run rate to South Africa.

The Black Caps had a similar story as they went down to Pakistan in their opening game of the T20 World Cup campaign but won five games in trot to make it to their maiden World T20 final.

Former Australian player Brad Hogg said that he never expected Australia to reach the final. They suffered back-to-back T20I series defeat to Bangladesh and West Indies before coming to the tournament.

“I didn’t expect them to reach the final. I thought Pakistan had a better-balanced team to beat Australia. They prepared for this tournament better than Australia. If you look at Australia, they had gone to Bangladesh and West Indies, had a bit of a mix and match team,” Hogg said on his YouTube channel.

They weren’t going in as a balanced team and a side that has been together. A lot of them had been in quarantine back home and hadn’t had match cricket behind them as well. I was very surprised that they were able to step up and get through to the final. Full credit to them. They worked hard in the nets and put in those extra yards,” he added.

New Zealand are a balanced outfit: Brad Hogg

New Zealand are the reigning champions of the World Test Championship 2019/21 season and have made their fourth appearance in a final of an ICC  tournament since 2015.

Hogg said that New Zealand are a balanced side and mostly play the same players in every major tournament.

New Zealand are a balanced outfit. They’ve got a squad of 15 that they don’t really change over an extended period of time. They make sure that the big boys are always playing the majority of the tournaments. They are very well balanced as well,” Hogg said.

Australia will play against New Zealand in the final on Sunday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
