New Zealand lock horns with Scotland in the 32nd match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 on Wednesday at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. New Zealand lost their first match of the super-12 stage against Pakistan but then bounced back brilliantly with a win against India.
The Blackcaps came out with a plan and they implemented that brilliantly. A combined bowling effort helped the team restrict India to just 110 runs in the first innings. India’s top-order once again succumbed to an exceptional spell of fast bowling from the likes of Boult, Southee, and Milne.
Later, Ish Sodhi and Mitchell Santner spun a web around the Indian batsmen in the middle overs. The duo didn’t allow India to score runs freely and also picked the wickets of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Trent Boult, once again, was sensational against India, picking 3 for 20 in 4 overs. Ish Sodhi returned with figures of 2 for 17 in 4 overs.
Daryl Mitchell’s 49 off 35 in the second innings meant New Zealand chased down the score 14.3 overs. Kane Williamson remained unbeaten on 33 off 31 balls.
On the other hand, Scotland haven’t made an ideal start to their super 12 campaign. They were brilliant in the first round, winning all three games. However, they couldn’t carry their form in the super 12s. Another defeat from here could end their hopes of reaching the playoffs.
Scotland batted first in their last game against Namibia and were bundled out for just 109 runs. The likes of Munsey, M Cross, and Berrington haven’t returned with great numbers in the Super 12 matches.
Thanks to a 44 from Leask, Scotland reached 109 in 20 overs. The bowlers fought hard and did manage to take the game till the very last over. However, Namibia chased down the score eventually in 19.1 overs. Michael Leask was brilliant with the ball too, picking 2 for 12 in 2 overs.
Ahead of their third game against the Blackcaps, the fans would be hoping for a better performance from Scotland with both bat and ball.
