Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan replied to T20I captain Mahmudullah’s comments on belittling the national team.

Bangladesh lost their first match to Scotland by six runs in the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers.

But Mahmudullah and his men clawed their way by winning their remaining two fixtures against host Oman and Papua New Guinea in Group B to make it through the Super 12 stage.

After the match against PNG, Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah expressed his disappointment with the criticism the team faced and also said that it felt like they were belittled.

We expect criticism when it is warranted, but if that is belittling, we feel bad,” Mahmudullah had stated in a press conference.

I don’t think anyone raised question about their commitment: Nazmul Hasan to Mahmudullah

Responding to Mahmudullah’s claims, Nazmul said that nobody questioned over their commitment but he wasn’t pleased with their performance against Scotland.

There are two things that I did not get. Like he said they feel bad when anyone questions their commitment. I don’t think anyone raised question about their commitment… Not for once I said anything about commitment. Secondly, he said I belittled them but I feel it’s an emotional outburst,” Nazmul told Somoy TV.

“I will still stick to my point that I was not happy with their approach, attitude and planning in the first game,” he added.

Before coming to the Qualifiers event, Bangladesh thrashed Australia 4-1 and defeated New Zealand 3-2 in T20I series at home.

With the domination of their spinners, Bangladesh are touted to be the dark horses of the tournament.

It must be shocking for their fans and the board after seeing them struggle against Scotland in the opening game.

Nazmul said that the Bangladesh cricket team’s supporters are human beings just like the players, and they also have emotions within them.

The BCB chief cleared it that there wasn’t anything to take personally for anyone.

I think he (Mahmudullah) and other players need to understand one thing, like he said, that they are humans but on the same note, the team’s supporters and the spectators are also humans and [so is] everyone in BCB,”Nazmul said.

“There is nothing to take personally because whatever we said was for the team and the country and not against any individual,” he added.

Bangladesh will join defending champions West Indies, England, Australia, South Africa and Sri Lanka in Group 1 of the Super 12 stage.
