Veteran Afghanistan batsman Asghar Afghan was accorded a guard of honour by team Namibia on the occasion of his last international game.

Asghar Afghan ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 clash against Namibia at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi announced that he will be playing his last international match for Afghanistan on 31st October 2021.

Afghanistan’s ex-captain Asghar Afghan who holds the highest winning streak as a captain in T20 internationals surpassing Indian legend Ms Dhoni by one extra win decides to bid farewell with all formats of cricket in Afghanistan’s third match against Namibia at @T20WorldCup,” the Afghanistan Cricket Board tweeted on Saturday.

Afghanistan won the toss opted to bat first against Namibia and they made one change in playing XI by adding Hamid Hassan in place of unfit Mujeeb-ur-Rahman.

The Afghan openers Hazratullah Zazai and Mohammad Shahzad were off to a flying start and they smashed 11 runs in the first over bowled by Ruben Trumpelmann. Openers carried forward the momentum and they were able to add 50 runs in the powerplay overs. However, just after the powerplay, JJ Smit was able to dismiss Hazratullah Zazai.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz was also dismissed by Loftie-Eaton in the 10th over and then Asghar Afghan came out to bat and while walking out he received a well-deserving guard of honour from the Namibian players as well as his compatriot Mohammad Shahzad.

Asghar Afghan is one of the most successful Afghanistan player of all time, he has played 6 Tests, 114 ODIs and 75 T20Is and has scored 4215 runs across formats and led Afghanistan in 115 matches. He also holds the record of most T20I wins as captain (42).
