New Zealand take on Australia in the first Super 12 match of the T20 World Cup in Sydney on October 2022. Australia are the host of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Hence, all the matches will take place at different stadiums spread across Australia. Australia are also the defending champions of the tournament who defeated New Zealand in the last year’s T20 World Cup final.
The Kiwis have an eye for revenge in their very first game of this World Cup campaign. The finalists of the tournament 12 months earlier have a well-rounded team who can go all the way to lift the title. They will be missing Daryl Mitchell in the first game against the Aussies after he fractured his finger at practice. Head coach Gary Stead said that he will be back for the side’s second game against Afghanistan.
They did not have an ideal preparation for the two warm-up games they were scheduled to play. They lost the first against the Proteas in which the side was bowled out for just 98. The second against India was cancelled due to rain. Meanwhile, in this article, we take a look at their probable playing XI for their Super 12 clash against India.
AUS vs NZ: New Zealand’s Predicted Playing XI Against Australia- ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12, Group 1, Match 13
The senior batter scored just 26 in the previous game. Guptill is among the top three highest scorers in T20I cricket and needs to have a good tournament.
Devon Conway (WK)
Conway is an exciting batter on the Kiwi side. He has the T20 game in himself to surprise the opposition team. He should open the batting with Guptill.
Kane Williamson (C)
Williamson scored 3 off 12 balls in the war.-up game against the Proteas. He led the team to the final of the previous T20 World Cup. He has to have a good season with the bat if the Kiwis are to win the T20 World Cup title.
Phillips bats with an attacking approach and can play according to the situation. He can open the batting and can also play in the middle order.
Chapman can slot in at number five. He played the last game and scored four of six balls. Daryl Mitchell is expected to replace him in the second game.
Needham can be the specialist all-rounder in the playing XI. he has played a lot of cricket for the Kiwis but has not cemented his place in the white-ball sides so far.
Bracewell has been one of the key payers for New Zealand in T20 cricket in recent times. His exploits in the format have made the world take notice of him. He slots in at seven.
Southee is one of the top wicket-takers in the format with 122 T20I wickets. He will be one of the two pacers in the lineup.
Boult will be the second specialist seamer in the playing XI. He has a good record against Australia and his battle with the likes of Finch and Warner will be interesting to watch.
Santner should be one of the two spinners to play against Australia. He has a good record against the Aussies.
Sodhi completes the likely playing Xi for the Kiwis for their first Super 12 game against Australia. He will be the second spinner in the lineup.
