Ireland registered their first win of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 against England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne on Wednesday, October 26.

When rain interrupted the Group 1 match, England were five runs short of 110, the par score. The match was called off by the umpires as England ran out of time and declared Ireland as winners through the Duckworth-Lewis method. In that historic win, Ireland played their best game against England.

The former England captain and known for his outspoken style on social media, Michael Vaughan, has targeted his team. He explained that the English team’s performance against Ireland in the Super 12 match of the T20 World Cup was very disappointing. Vaughan added that there were no excuses for the loss as Ireland were far superior with the ball in hand.

England Allowed Ireland To Play Easy Shots – Michael Vaughan

“England were pretty pathetic for around 15 overs and got it right towards the back end, but the lengths and lines were too inconsistent,” Vaughan told Cricbuzz.

“I think England allowed Ireland to play easy shots because the bowling was so poor. They should’ve been better, they should’ve been able to switch on sooner. And they just lapsed for that split second and, at this level, it’s very difficult to get back into a competitive mode.”

The England cricket team has a good record against all opponents in the T20 World Cup, but the team has suffered against its neighbors. England’s record against European teams like Ireland and the Netherlands has been extremely embarrassing in the history of the T20 World Cup. England has always looked battered in front of these two teams. In the last 15 years of T20 World Cup history, England has faced Ireland twice and the Netherlands twice, but the English team has not won even once.

The match between New Zealand and Afghanistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground was called off without a ball being bowled due to persistent rain on Wednesday, October 26. The group is wide open as England’s encounter with Australia has now become a do-or-die match for both teams.
