ENG vs IRE: England Predicted Playing 11 vs Ireland, ICC T20 World Cup 2022. England and Ireland will play against each other in the 20th Match of Group 1 (D/N) at Melbourne on October 26, 2022, in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.

While England defeated Afghanistan in their first Super 12 Group 1 match (14th match) by 5 wickets, Ireland were restricted to 128/8 against Sri Lanka in their first Super 12 Group 1 match (15th match). Sri Lanka chased the target comfortably losing only 1 wicket in the 15th over.

Pacer Sam Curran (5/10) became the first England bowler to take a five-wicket haul in T20Is as Jos Buttler led England beat Afghanistan by 5 wickets in Perth in a Super 12 Group 1 match. Chasing a modest 113, England crossed the finish line with 11 balls to spare.

Sam Curran’s five-for dismantled Afghanistan as England notched a five-wicket win in their opening ICC T20 World Cup 2022 match on Saturday. Sam Curran sizzled with a five-wicket haul, giving away only 10 runs, while Ben Stokes (2/19) and Mark Wood (2/23) picked two wickets apiece to bundle out Afghanistan for 112. Defending a modest total, the Afghans made a game out of it but England eventually completed the task in 18.1 overs.

England got off to a steady start with Alex Hales and Jos Buttler putting on an opening stand of 35 runs. But they suffered a brief scare in the middle as they went on to lose four wickets in the space of just 46 runs. Afghanistan could also sense that they were back in the game. But Liam Livingstone stepped up and scored an unbeaten 29 from 21 deliveries to guide England home.

While achieving a target of 113 was always expected, the manner in which England struggled, particularly against Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Mohammad Nabi, spoke of a few kinks still to be ironed out. The spin trio conceded just one boundary between them and emerged with a wicket each.

Brief Scores:- England 113 for 5 (Livingstone 29*) beat Afghanistan 112 (Curran 5-10) by five wickets

With Eoin Morgan’s retirement, Jason Roy dropped, Jonny Bairstow injured and Alex Hales and Ben Stokes returning, a settled side has changed more in the past year than the previous five. England endured a turbulent summer, but the series victories in Pakistan and Australia have confirmed England’s status as a strong contender for the 2022 T20 World Cup.

The batting line-up has a strong case for being the best destructive in the 2022 T20 World Cup competition – especially if skipper and keeper Jos Buttler can show the form that saw him score four Indian Premier League centuries and Liam Livingstone’s return can be smooth.

The rapid development of Sam Curran’s death bowling in recent months balances the side. But much will depend on whether England all-rounder Chris Woakes can snare new ball wickets – England’s bowling in the Powerplay is a bellwether for the team’s results – with concerns about Adil Rashid’s form.

Mark Wood’s searing pace in the recent 4-3 series win over Pakistan presents encouraging signs considering pacy Australian surfaces, and in Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, and David Willey, England have fine all-round options. The X-factor though could be Adil Rashid, who continues to remind us time and again why leg-spinners are the much sought-after entities in the shortest format.

England, the reigning 2019 ODI World Cup champions and winners at the 2010 T20 World Cup have been a formidable outfit in white-ball cricket in recent years, and once again enter a major multi-nation tournament as one of the hot favorites.

England (probable): Jos Buttler (capt & wk), Alex Hales, Dawid Malan, Ben Stokes, Liam Livingstone, Harry Brook, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood

Jos Buttler (C & WK)

Jos Buttler is the skipper of England in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 and led the team in the opening game against Afghanistan as well. Jos Buttler recently recovered from a back injury. In the warm-up match, he did not get a chance to bat. With his hard-hitting style, the right-handed batter will aim to provide a quick start to the team. Jos Buttler will also keep the stumps in the match. He scored 18 off as many balls against Afghanistan.

England skipper Jos Buttler made a successful return to International Cricket by scoring 68 of 32 balls against Australia in the 1st T20I. The right-handed batter was on the England Tour of Pakistan but did not feature in a single T20I match out of 7 T20Is due to an injury.

The inclusion of Jos Buttler was a huge boost to England as the batter got acclimatized to the Australian conditions-the venue of the upcoming 2022 T20I World Cup. He had an outstanding 2021 T20I World Cup where he scored 269 runs with 1 ton-career best of 101* averaging 89.67 in 6 T20Is.

Alex Hales

Alex Hales was another opener for England in the match against Afghanistan. After his return to the national side, Alex Hales has given a good performance as an opener. He also played impressive knocks in the previous T20I series against Australia. In the warm-up game, he scored 9 runs. He scored 19 against Afghanistan.

Following a failed drug test in 2019 that resulted in Eoin Morgan removing Alex Hales from England’s white-ball setup, he spent three years in the wilderness until being selected for the seven-match series against Pakistan. He scored 130 runs averaging 21.67 in 6 T20Is in the Pakistan tour. He also smashed a 51-ball 84 against Australia in Perth in the 1st T20I.

The selectors decided to give him a chance when regular opener Jonny Bairstow sustained an injury last month because of his superior performance in the BBL.

Dawid Malan

Dawid Malan scored 174 runs in 6 matches in the Pakistan series averaging 34.8. Dawid Malan smashed unbeaten 78 runs off 47 balls to help England score 209/3 in 20 overs while batting first and then the English bowlers put in impressive spells to restrict the hosts to just 142/8 to register a big 67-run win in the last-series deciding 7th T20I. He scored 18 off 30 in the opening match against Afghanistan.

Ben Stokes batted at the No.4 spot in the England vs Afghanistan opening game of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. He scored only 2 but picked 2/19 in the match against Afghanistan. The left-handed batsman scored a quickfire knock of 36 runs off 18 balls in the warm-up match against Pakistan. He slammed 2 fours and 3 sixes at a strike rate of 200.0 in the match. Ben Stokes will be a powerful batter for England at the No. 4 position. He can also bowl overs for the team.

Ben Stokes is slated to bat at No 4 for England in the 2022 T20I World Cup but is his place under pressure as he hasn’t played much T20I for a while. Ben Stokes struggled during his short stay in the 1st T20I against Australia. Meanwhile, he also suffered a freak injury as he got hit on the chin while attempting a reverse scoop. He failed to make an impact in the game and was dismissed for a nine-ball nine. With the ball, he was wicketless and returned with figures of 0/18 in 2 overs.

Liam Livingstone was a middle-order batter for England in the match against Afghanistan. The right-handed batsman scored 28 runs in the warm-up match against Pakistan.

Liam Livingstone smash runs at a high pace which enables the team to capture a lot of runs in the middle. Liam Livingstone can also bowl some overs for the team. He didn’t bowl against Afghanistan but scored an unbeaten 29 off 21 balls that saw England win by 5 wickets.

The 29-year-old has not played since August 23 after suffering ankle ligament damage following an innocuous trip and also missed England’s final two T20s against Australia, in Canberra on Wednesday and Friday. Liam Livingstone, who hit England’s fastest-ever hundred, from just 42 balls, in a T20 international against Pakistan at Trent Bridge in July 2021, says the break from cricket has refreshed him mentally.

Harry Brook

Harry Brook was another middle-order batsman for England in the opening game against Afghanistan. The right-handed batsman smacked a marvellous knock of unbeaten 45 runs during the warm-up game against Pakistan. His knock helped the team bag victory during the chase. He scored only 7 in the first Super 12 match against Afghanistan.

Moeen Ali

Moeen Ali was a spin all-rounder for England in the match against Afghanistan. The left-handed batsman did not bat in the warm-up match. Moeen Ali is a hard-hitting batter and can help the team to get runs during death overs. The left-arm spinner can also bowl overs for the team and grab wickets. He didn’t bowl against Afghanistan but scored an unbeaten 8.

Moeen Ali scored 142 runs in 4 innings averaging 142 in the Pakistan 7-match T20I tour. The stand-in skipper had the best batting average of 142 and 3rd highest strike rate of 159.55. Moeen Ali captained England’s Twenty20 side in their 4-3 series win over Pakistan in the absence of the injured Jos Buttler and will be a key player for the team in this month’s T20I World Cup in Australia.

Sam Curran was another all-rounder for England in the opening game of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. The left-handed batsman played a fabulous quickfire knock of 33 runs off just 14 deliveries in the warm-up match. The left-arm pacer also picked 1 wicket in the match. The pace all-rounder picked 5 wickets conceding only 10 runs in 3.4 overs against Afghanistan and was named MOM.

Left-arm fast bowling all-rounder Sam Curran was forced to sit out last year’s World Cup after suffering a stress fracture in his lower back but is backfiring for the tournament in Australia. But after playing a key role in England’s build-up, including a nerveless display at the death to help win the first T20I against Australia, Sam Curran admits he is starting to dream.

Sam Curran did his prospects no harm taking 7-2 defending 16 in the final over as England got over the line in a high-scoring opener in Perth even if he almost certainly needs to do more with the bat.

Chris Woakes

Chris Woakes was another pace all-rounder for the team against Afghanistan. Chris Woakes did not get a chance to bowl or bat during the warm-up match. Chris Woakes is a hard-hitting batsman who has batted at a strike rate of 144+ for England in T20Is so far. He returned with figures of 1/24 in 4 overs picking Mujeeb Ur Rahman’s scalp against Afghanistan.

Mark Wood was another pacer for the team in the opening match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 against Afghanistan . In the match-up match, the right-arm pacer could not get a wicket in his 4 overs against Pakistan. Mark Wood has the strength of pace in his bowling and he troubled the Afghan batters during the match as he picked 2/23 against the Afghans.

Adil Rashid

Adil Rashid was the spinner for the team in the opening Super 12 match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 against Afghanistan where he was wicketless. The leg spinner bowled in the warm-up match but could not pick any wicket. However, Adil Rashid is the most powerful spinner for the team in T20Is currently. He has grabbed 89 wickets in the shortest format so far averaging about 25.0.

Adil Rashid, the right-arm leg break spinner had an excellent 2021 T20I World Cup where he picked 9 scalps in 6 games averaging 16.22 including his career-best figures of 4/2. His recent form isn’t that great but he is a sure-shot starter in England’s XI.
