England beat Pakistan by five wickets in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday, November 13. The Jos Buttler-led team notched up their second T20 World Cup trophy and ended the 12-year wait.

Three Lions restricted Pakistan to a below-par total of 137 runs for the loss of eight wickets before chasing the target down with six balls to spare. Ben Stokes scored an unbeaten knock of 52 runs off 49 balls to help his team win. Sam Curran took three wickets, and he was also named Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament.

This Team Deserves It – Eoin Morgan

Former captain Eoin Morgan praised the England team and believes they deserve to be considered among the best limited-overs sides. Morgan, who guided England to a World Cup triumph in 2019, stepped down and handed over the captaincy to Jos Buttler early this year.

“This team deserves it. They’ve been through the mill in the group stages and they’ve produced close to their very best against India in the semi-final.”

“Jos Buttler said, ‘We don’t want to be known as a team just for our style of play’. We were known like that in 50 overs then won the 50-over World Cup in 2019. In T20 they’ve now won something tangible to be regarded as one of the great sides. They were excellent.”

Eoin Morgan praised Ben Stokes, who was crucial in the 50-over victory, for his match-winning performance in the T20 World Cup final against Pakistan.

“Ben is just such a special player. In big games he continues to stand up for his country when his country needs him. That is such an incredible skill to have.”

England won the eighth edition of the T20 World Cup, making them the indisputable white-ball champions, as they already hold the world title in the fifty-over format. They outclassed Pakistan, who arrived in Melbourne hoping to recreate the glory of former skipper Imran Khan’s 1992 50-over World Cup victory.
