Indian Cricket Team once again showed potential but failed in crucial junctions of the match. It looked as if the Men in Blue were not ready for the uphill challenge. The way they lost against England has raised questions about their preparations for the marquee tournament.

Indian batting lineup was too much dependent on Virat Kohli & Suryakumar Yadav. Both the batters had a dream tournament but winning a championship requires teamwork. KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma were not able to give the team a solid start at the front which put a lot of pressure on the middle order.

Daren Sammy on India

Daren Sammy was having an interaction with ICC and was asked about the Indian Cricket Team’s reason behind the decline in T20 Tournaments.

“The players with experience of playing in T20 leagues around the world really shone. You look at India, who have the biggest T20 league, but their players do not have the experience of the guys who are playing all over the world,” he maintained.

“You look at guys like Alex Hales, Chris Jordan, guys who play in the Big Bash. It is no coincidence that they (England) excelled in Australia. England were the most complete team and they are fitting champions. They showed they were the best all-round team in all their pressure matches,” he added.

Steep Road Ahead For India

BCCI will have to change its stance and allow Indian players to participate in overseas leagues, or arrange training camps so that the players get used to the conditions. There’s no doubt that IPL is the biggest league as mentioned by Sammy but since its inception, India hasn’t won ICC T20 World Cup.

Head Coach Rahul Dravid had mentioned in a post-match press conference that allowing Indian players to participate in overseas leagues will finish the domestic circuit.

At the same time, the board can allow a bunch of players to go for the tournament as India has got a lot of depth as well as talent. It would be interesting to see whether they change its policy as the next T20 World Cup is in USA-West Indies in 2024.
