The Indian T20 World Cup squad has already been selected. While the squad is scheduled to fly for Australia in a few days, former India cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar believes four players who should have been on that flight are missing.

India is in trouble heading into the T20 World Cup after it was reported that Jasprit Bumrah, like Ravindra Jadeja, could be ruled out.

As if Ravindra Jadeja’s earlier T20 World Cup exclusion were not worrying enough, Indian pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah has also been excluded, according to a report on Thursday from news outlet Press Trust of India, which cited BCCI sources.

The Indian squad suffered a severe loss with Bumrah’s elimination from the major cricket competition. On October 16, 16 nations will compete in the ICC T20 World Cup. A stress fracture in his back has forced Bumrah, who has participated in 60 international matches, to withdraw.

“There is no out-of-the-box thinking”: Dilip Vengsarkar

Dilip Vengsarkar, a former captain of India, believes that the team might have omitted a few players who deserved to be there. Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill, and youthful tearaway Umran Malik are among them, along with veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami, whose exclusion from the T20 World Cup selection stunned several former players.

“There is no out-of-the-box thinking. I would have picked Umran Malik because of his speed. He is a guy who is bowling 150kmph; you’ve got to pick him now, you can’t pick him when he becomes a 130kmph bowler,” said Vengsarkar.”

“Shreyas Iyer is in good form and he missed out. Mohammed Shami and Shubman Gill should also be on the team. I am impressed with Gill” Dilip Vengsarkar said.

Umran grabbed attention in the latter stages of the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) and throughout the 2022 competition by consistently exceeding the 150kph mark and seldom bowling below 145kph.

He was called up to the Indian team because of his success in the 2022 season, but the 22-year-old has not yet made an impression in his brief international career.
