The Australian Cricket Team won a thrilling match against Afghanistan. The Defending Champions won by only 4 runs as Afghanistan almost pulled off a heist. Australia had made some changes to their team as they dropped Mitchell Starc and included Kane Richardson whereas skipper Aaron Finch and Tim David were ruled out of the fixture due to injuries.

Afghanistan had won the toss and opted to bowl first at the Adelaide Oval. Afghanistan bowlers took 3 crucial wickets in the power-play overs and gave away 54 runs.  Glenn Maxwell played an invaluable knock of 54 runs in 32 balls where he smashed 6 fours and 2 sixes and took Australia’s total to a challenging 168-8.

Afghanistan Cricket Team had a pretty good power-play where they managed to score 47 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. Ibrahim Zadran and Gulbadin Naib were looking threatening to take the game away from the opposition. The team required 97 runs in the last 10 overs which was quite gettable with 8 wickets in hand.

The turning point of the match came in the 14th over where Afghanistan lost 3 wickets. Adam Zampa took 2 huge scalps of Ibrahim Zadran and Najibullah Zadran. Glenn Maxwell’s direct hit proved to be quite decisive as he got rid of dangerous Gulbadin.

Rashid Khan showed a fight as he scored an unbeaten 48 runs in 23 balls where he struck 3 fours and 4 sixes. He almost took Afghanistan over the finish line but he didn’t get support from the rest of the batters. Australian pacers used tricky variations to fox the batters.

Due to this win, Australia now has 7 points from 5 matches with an NRR of -0.17 and would be banking on Sri Lanka to defeat England on 5th November (Saturday) as England has a better NRR of +0.54. Afghanistan on the other hand would be in tatters as they had a golden chance to spoil the party of defending champions and they ended the tournament with 2 points (2 matches were washed out) from 5 matches with an NRR of -0.57.
