Nasser Hussain, a former England batter, has asserted that Sam Curran is one of the most sought-after players for T20 teams worldwide.

The 54-year-old thinks that England’s outstanding T20 World Cup victory this year was largely due to their excellent death bowling.

Curran’s left-arm seam bowling was vital in this year’s T20 World Cup. The 24-year-old took 13 wickets at 11.38 in six games, including 4-0-12-3 against Pakistan in the tournament decider and a five-wicket haul against Afghanistan. His efforts earned him not only Player of the Match in the final, but also Player of the Tournament.

“You can see why different franchises around the world are willing to pay a lot of money to bring Curran on board. Analysts say he’s already figured out how to bowl to different batters before they’ve had a chance to tell him.”

“Okay, the conditions have been better for bowlers in Australia, and the MCG pitch wasn’t the best yesterday, but you still have to bowl to the dimensions and conditions, which Curran has done time and again,” Nasser Hussain said.

Curran was one of the most expensive players in the IPL 2019 auction after Punjab Kings paid INR 7.2 crore for him.

Hussain added that unlike their poor performance at the end of the 2016 and 2021 editions, England played Pakistan in a close final.

“Death bowling cost England in Kolkata in 2016 and in Abu Dhabi last year, but not in this tournament,” he remarked.

“Take a peek at this final. Pakistan was on 123 with three overs to go and ended up making 137, so the last 18 balls bowled by Curran and Chris Jordan were crucial. If Pakistan had reached 150, the story would have been very different” Nasser Hussain Added.

After opting to bat first, England limited Pakistan to 137 runs. Ben Stokes’ unbeaten fifty later proved crucial in their five-wicket victory.
