Wasim Akram, a legendary cricketer, has responded to Gautam Gambhir after the former Indian opener unleashed a vicious attack on Pakistan captain Babar Azam during the ongoing ICC World T20 2022.
The responsibility was on Pakistan’s star batsman Babar to set an example for the Green Army in their group match against the Netherlands as Pakistan was staring at the exit door after back-to-back losses in the Super 12 stage.
However, Babar was unable to play a significant role in Pakistan’s first T20 World Cup victory on Sunday. The Green Army’s star striker batsman had another forgetful outing with willow, and his leadership drew criticism from former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir during Pakistan’s match against the Netherlands.
During the World Cup match commentary, Gambhir slammed Babar and called him a “selfish” captain.
“In my opinion, you should first think about your team rather than yourself; if things don’t go as planned, you should have moved Fakhar Zaman up the batting order.
“This is known as selfishness, and it is simple to be selfish as a captain. It is simple for Babar and Rizwan to open Pakistan’s innings and set numerous records. If you want to be a leader, you must consider your team “, Gambhir stated on television during Pakistan’s match against the Netherlands on Sunday.
“Gautam Gambhir himself being a successful captain”: Wasim Akram
Akram was questioned about Gambhir’s salacious comments about the Pakistan skipper during a conversation on Pakistani channel A Sports. “Having strong words to say about Babar Azam’s leadership, Gautam Gambhir did. In fact, he claimed in his comments that Babar could not have been so self-centered as to support Fakhar Zaman,” noted the anchor.
Wasim Akram acknowledged the query, acknowledged Gambhir’s comments, and stated that the former Indian opener is free to express his own views.
“That’s his viewpoint, Being a successful IPL captain, Gautam Gambhir (Indian Premier League). two victories with KKR. Everybody, I suppose, has the right to express their opinion about one of the greatest performers of all time. That’s his viewpoint, too,” Wasim Akram remarked.
In three matches so far, Babar has scores of 0 against India, 4 against Zimbabwe, and 4 again against the Netherlands.
