IND vs SA: Virat Kohli Is On The Verge Of Breaking World Record

All eyes will be on Virat Kohli once again when India take on South Africa in their next Super 12 fixture in Group 2 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Sunday, October 30. Kohli has been in majestic form so far in the tournament, having scored unbeaten fifties against Pakistan and the Netherlands.

So far in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, Kohli has been in incredible shape, scoring two back-to-back fifties and yet to be dismissed, scoring 144 runs in two matches.

The right-handed batsman scored an unbeaten 82 in India’s win over Pakistan in the opening game at Melbourne Cricket Ground and followed it up with 62 runs against the Netherlands at Sydney Cricket Ground.

He has extraordinary numbers in the marquee event of the shortest format and he will look to retain his ace form and help India register a third consecutive win in the ongoing T20 World Cup, taking a step closer to a semifinal spot.

Virat Kohli Is Now The Second-Highest Run-Scorer In ICC T20 World Cups

The 33-year-old has now scored 989 runs in 23 T20 WC matches at an average of 89.90 and is just 28 runs away from surpassing former Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene to become the highest run-scorer in T20 World Cup history.

Virat Kohli won the Man of the Tournament award twice in the history of the tournament. He won in 2014 (319 runs) and 2016 (273 runs), becoming the only player to do so.

Former Australia captain Greg Chappell lauded Kohli, describing his knock against Pakistan as a “song by God.”

“None of the greats of bygone eras could have dismembered of an opponent so brutally without compromising the niceties of the art of batting than Kohli did last Sunday night,” Chappell told the Sydney Morning Herald.
