India take on Pakistan in their first Super 12 clash at the MCG in Melbourne on October 23. The Super 12 campaign starts with Australia taking on New Zealand in the first game in Sydney on October 22. A total of 45 matches will take place during ICC T20 World Cup 2022. A total of 16 teams are part of the tournament. The ICC T20 World Cup 2022 final will be played on November 13.

The Indian team is well-staked up with quality players. There is a good balance in the squad. Meanwhile, the absence of Jasprit Bumrah is a big miss in the tournament. Mohammed Shami has been named as his replacement. He showed immediate impact in the warm-up game against Australia. Bowling the final over he picked up three wickets and defended 11 to help India win the game by 6 runs.

The last time these two teams met was in the Asia Cup where Pakistan defeated India to knock them out of the tournament. In this article, we take a look at India’s probable playing XI against Pakistan for their first Super 12 game.

Rahul scored a brilliant 57 opening the batting. He played with an attacking instinct and with a good strike rate, something for which he was criticised recently. A good opening stand between Rohit and Rahul is key for India in the game.

Kohli scored 19 off 13 deliveries. Against Pakistan, he will be eyeing a big score to set the ball rolling for the Men in Blue. He is the batter with the most runs against Pakistan in T20I cricket.

SKY too scored a fifty against Australia. He is the most in-form batter for India at the moment. His 360-degree playing approach makes him a difficult player to bowl to.

Hardik Pandya

Pandya slots in at five. He scored just two in the previous match but bowled three good overs. The Indian all-rounder made a good comeback in the Asia Cup and needs to stay fit.

Dinesh Karthik (WK)

Karthik might be chosen over Pant again. In case the management wants to play Pant and Karthik together, what kind of changes do they make to the playing XI will be an interesting observation.

Ashwin gave away 28 runs off his four overs. He should be one of the two spinners in the playing XI for the match against Pakistan.

Axar Patel did not bowl in the previous warm-up match against Australia. Yuzvendra Chahal should be chosen above him in this game as he is a specialist leg spinner who will be a better option against Pakistan.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Bhuvi picked up 2 for 20 in the game against Australia. He picked up early wickets as he does in the powerplay. His job will be similar in the game against Pakistan.

Shami bowled a brilliant last over against Australia to win the game for India. He picked up three wickets. After such a performance, he should play every match in this T20 World Cup for India.

The left-arm seamer concludes India’s likely playing XI for the game against Pakistan. The bowling lineup will have enough options with five regular bowlers and Hardik as the sixth bowling option.
