Veteran Pakistan National Cricket Team player Shoaib Malik has said that the Pakistan National Cricket Team captain Babar Azam’s inability to use his feet against the spinners is a concern and he needs to make changes in his batting technique.

The 28-year-old Babar Azam didn’t have a good run with the bat in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. In the Super 12 stage, he registered scores of 0, 4, 4, 6 and 25. His first half-century in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 came in the crucial semi-final against New Zealand, where he scored 53 runs off 42 balls, including 7 fours.

In the final against England, he scored 32 runs off 28 balls, including 2 fours, before being cleaned up by Adil Rashid in the 12th over. On the first ball of the over, Rashid bowled a googly to Babar on off.

The Pakistan captain attempted to slash the delivery on the off-side, but he ended up getting it off the upper part of his bat, and the ball went towards the bowler, who grabbed an amazing diving catch.

If you are not able to check a spinner’s hand, you need to watch a lot of videos – Shoaib Malik

Dissecting Babar Azam’s dismissal against Adil Rashid in the high-voltage summit clash, Shoaib Malik said:

“If you are not able to check a spinner’s hand, you need to watch a lot of videos. Babar needs to make changes in his batting. If your legs are planted, you still manage against pacers. But you can’t play a spinner with planted legs. For example, Babar thought Rashid bowled him leg spin and prepared to play in the covers but since it was a googly, he could not do anything but get out.

“You can’t let spinners overpower you. They (batters) should have walked out and hit them straight for boundaries. The straight boundaries were smaller as compared to side boundaries.”
