Pakistan and New Zealand face off in the first semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Sydney on October 9. The match starts at 1.30 pm IST which is 7 pm local time. This is the first time both these teams are facing each other in this World Cup. They played each other recently in a tri-series where The Men In Green defeated the Kiwis in the final. 

This is the sixth time Pakistan have made it to the T20 World Cup semis in eight editions. The only time they failed to make the semis was in 2014 and 2016. The side has not played consistent cricket in this World Cup.

They lost to India in their opening game and then again lost to Zimbabwe. Pakistan’s loss to Zimbabwe was one of the major upsets in this tournament. Pakistan needed to win against Bangladesh to make the semis which they managed to do.

The side pins their hopes on skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan and their bowling attack. Babar has scored just 39 runs in this tournament so far while Rizwan has just over 100.

Their bowlers, however, have been at the top of their game and have played key roles in the crucial victories. Shahab Khan has taken 10 wickets, Shaheen Afridi 8, and Haris Rauf six wickets in the tournament so far. Haris has picked up a wicket in every game. Barring the game against India, Shadab has picked a wicket in every game.

Speaking about New Zealand‘s World Cup campaign so far, They began their World Cup with back-to-back big victories against Australia and Sri Lanka. They defeated the Aussies by 89 runs and the Lankans by 65 runs. Their game against Afghanistan was rained-out. They lost against England but then bounced back against Ireland to make the semis. Glenn Phillips has nearly scored 200 runs in the tournament so far and held one end up with the bat. The bowlers have taken 30 wickets between themselves in the tournament so far.
