Bangladesh were eliminated from the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 with a 5-wicket defeat to Pakistan at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday, November 6.

After batting first, the team got off to a good start in the first 10 overs of the match but subsequently failed to capitalize. From 73 for 2 with good batting depth, Bangladesh posted just 127/8, which was never going to trouble Pakistan, and this target was chased down comfortably with 11 balls to spare.

Bangladesh Have To Blame Themselves – Wasim Akram

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram was delighted with Pakistan’s victory that took them through to the semifinal stage. He said that Bangladesh only had themselves to blame for their poor display.

“Bangladesh have to blame themselves. They should. If I was a captain of Bangladesh team or the coach of Bangladesh team, I will make sure these guys will see psychologists. Because at one stage, Shanto was on 54 and things were going well then,” Akram told A Sports’ show ‘The Pavilion’.

“They were 73 for 2 and I thought they’ll get to 160. But then Shanto stepped out and played a weird shot off Iftikhar and was bowled. If you had kept on taking singles, the score would have reached 155 comfortably,” he added.

Bangladesh Players Made Up Their Minds To Hit Shaheen – Wasim Akram

Wasim Akram criticized Bangladesh’s handling of a resurgent Shaheen Afridi, arguing that they could have treated him with more care and attention. The Pakistan fast bowler finished with 4 for 22 off four overs, his career-best T20I numbers.

Further talking about Bangladesh, Akram said, “In an international level, when you see a certain bowler was coming to bowl and you know that the opposition captain has brought him to take wickets, that’s where you don’t play a shot. You try to rotate the strike in that particular over but the Bangladesh players made up their minds to hit him and hit Shaheen only.”

After South Africa’s shocking loss to the Netherlands, Pakistan grabbed the thin chance to reach the T20 World Cup semi-finals with both hands. In the semi-finals, the Babar Azam-led team will take on New Zealand at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Wednesday, November 9.
