Sri Lanka take on Ireland for their first Super 12 game in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Hobart on Sunday, October 23. India plays Pakistan in the second game of the day. The Lankans topped Group A while the Irish finished second from Group 1 to make the Super 12s. Netherlands and Zimbabwe joined Group 2 in the Super 12s.

The super 12 round begins on October 22 with the first match between Australia and New Zealand– the finalists of last year’s T20 World Cup. The ICC T20 World Cup 2022 final will be played on November 13. A total of 45 matches will take place during ICC T20 World Cup 2022. A total of 16 teams are part of the tournament. final will be played on November 13.

Ireland lost to Zimbabwe in their opening qualifier but then defeated Scotland and West Indies to make their way to the Super 12s. They have made it to the Super 12s for the first time since 2009. The senior players in the squad namely skipper Andrew Balbirnie and Paul Stirling made most of the runs in the qualifiers. They will need to do the most of the scoring in the Super 12 stage as well. 

In this article, we take a look at Ireland’s predicted playing XI for their first Super 12 game in Hobart. The tournament only gets tougher for the Irish in a group where they have Australia, England, New Zealand.

Stirling has not fired in the series so far for Ireland. After two low scores in the first two games, he scored an unbeaten 66 against West Indis to win the game for his side.

Balbirnie scored 51 in the first game and 46 in the second. He seems to have found his form after a run of low scores and will look to continue the form in the series.

Harry Tector

Tector is yet to prove himself in this World cup. He will have his opportunities inthe Super 12 stage where Ireland playtough games and they need him to fire.

Lorcan Tucker (WK)

Tucker scored 45 in the winning game against West Indies. He needs to keep his form going for his side. The keeper can slot in at four.

Delany picked three wickets in the game against West Indies. He has been impressive with his leggies in the tournament and his side will need him for the remainder of the tournament as well.

George Dockrell

The experienced George Dockrell can slot in at number six in the line-up. He will be a key player for the side with his lower-order hitting ability and quality off-spin.

Campher scored an unbeaten 72 as Ireland chased down a target of over 170 against Scotland. He bowled well in the tournament as well. He will need his all-round skills top come up in the Super 12 stage.

Simi Singh

Indian-born Simi Singh will slot in at number eight. He bowled a few good overs in the qualifiers. With his offies, he will be crucial as he proved in the match against West Indies.

Mark Adair

Adair will be one of the three premier pacers in this lineup. He took five wickets in the qualifiers. He was one of the three Irish pacers in the playing XI.

Josh Little

Josh Little will be one of the three seamers for Ireland in their first game. He was good with his line and length in the qualifiers and needs to step up in the Super 12 stage.

Barry McCarthy

McCarthy concludes Ireland’s predicted playing XI for their first Super 12 game against Sri Lnaka.  He will be the third specialist seamer in the playing XI.
