Captain of the Pakistani men’s cricket team Babar Azam regained his rhythm at the ideal moment.

In this year’s T20 World Cup, the 28-year-old was having trouble scoring big runs, but on Wednesday against New Zealand in the important semifinal match, he smashed 53 runs to help his team defeat the Kiwis and advance to the final.

When Pakistan defeated New Zealand by seven wickets in the first semifinal of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on Wednesday, they defied all expectations and managed to advance to the championship match (November 9). To keep the Black Caps at bay and secure a spot in the top match for the third time in eight editions, the Babar Azam-led team scored 153 runs in 19.1 overs while losing just three wickets.

Mohammad Rizwan, the wicketkeeper-batter, and Babar Azam, the captain, performed admirably as Pakistan’s opening combination and each scored fifty runs. The basis was set as they added 105 runs for the first wicket in 12.4 overs. Babar Azam has also poked fun at the past Men in Green greats who harshly criticized him for his disastrous performance in the competition’s early rounds after leading his team to the championship match.

“We all play to win the game”: Babar Azam

During the post-game news conference, Babar told the media that everyone should celebrate and take pleasure in the Pakistani team’s triumph, even those watching on television.

“We all play to win the game. No one plays to lose. But we can’t control the result. Everyone must celebrate this victory. People back home in Pakistan must celebrate and those sitting on TV should also,” Babar said with a cheeky smile on his face.

Wasim Akram, Misbah-ul-Haq, Waqar Younis, and Shoaib Malik, who are panelists for A Sports, as well as Shoaib Malik, have all harshly criticized the Pakistani team for their lackluster performance in the first two matches, where they lost to India and Zimbabwe.
On Sunday at Melbourne Cricket Ground, Pakistan will play the winner of the second semifinal between India and England.
