Scott Styris believes it is too soon to review Ben Stokes’ efficiency as England’s Test captain. Stokes replaced Joe Root as England captain ahead of the ongoing Test series against New Zealand.

Many cricket pundits have praised the all-rounder for introducing a positive style of play into the England Test setup, which enabled them to successfully chase down over 275-run fourth-innings objectives in the first two matches against the Kiwis.

Scott Styris was questioned about Stokes’ performance as skipper during a conversation on Sports 18. He answered:

“It is still far too early to say, in my opinion. I am still not convinced. Cricket right now is the “everything is going well, it is clear sailing, blue abilities, all the analogies of amazing, everything in your favor kind cricket,” with two games against New Zealand ending in victories.”

“We are interested in seeing what develops with Ben Stokes when situations do not go as planned. What about international circumstances, everything about the Duke’s ball in England indicates that Broad and Anderson will succeed. There is a lot to say about what happens when they travel to Australia and India.”

Scott Styris came to the conclusion by repeating that it is too soon to develop an assessment on Stokes as a Test captain while noting how well he and Brendon McCullum complemented one another. He noticed:

“Brendon McCullum, who is great, will lead Ben Stokes, who I believe will be aggressive. Although I believe they are singing from the same hymnal, which is crucial, I believe it is still much too early to predict the kind of captain he will turn out to be.”

In the postponed conclusion of their five-match Test series, England will play Team India after the third Test against New Zealand ends.
