England and New Zealand go head to head in the second Test at Trent Bridge in Nottingham from June 10. They are leading the series 1-0 courtesy of their win in the first Test. England got off to a good start under Ben Stokes winning the first Test at the historic venue at Lord’s.
England head into the second Test as the more confident of the two teams. They have named an unchanged XI for the second Test with Jack Leech deemed fit and available to play after completing a mandatory seven-day conclusion return protocol.
The Stokes-McCullum pair has shown some great signs in the first Test and will look to carry on the good work. Joe Root‘s return to form was also a good sign for England. He was the highest scorer in Test cricket in 2021 and has now gone past 10000 Test runs in this crucial series.
The Kiwis need to do a lot of work in order to make a comeback in the series. They are trailing in the series with their skipper Kane Williamson not in the best of form at the moment. He scored 2 and 15 in the two innings of the Lord’s Test as his form continues to be miserable since the IPL.
To make matters worse for NZ, Colin de Grandhomme is ruled out of the rest of the series with a heel injury. That takes out an all-round player with a lot of potential. A loss in the second Test would end their hopes of a series win. Kane Williamson has also been ruled out of the second Test after testing positive for COVID-19.
