Nathan Lyon, an Australian off-spinner, wants to win a few more titles for his nation before retiring from playing. In red-ball cricket, the 35-year-old has long been the preferred spinner in the country.

Lyon doesn’t have any immediate plans to retire despite players like Todd Murphy, Mitchell Swepson, Ashton Agar, and Matthew Kuhnemann ascending through the ranks. despite all of his remarkable accomplishments.

Both an Ashes series in England and a victory over India on the subcontinent have yet to be achieved by the off-spinner. Nathan Lyon acknowledged that he might continue to play through that year in order to explore the last uncharted territories, as both series begin anew in 2027.

“There is no line in the sand, I am not saying I want to get so many wickets and then be calling it quits. It is still about me trying to get better each day, learning, and really enjoying the game,” Nathan Lyon told AAP.

“I have never met anyone who can conquer the game of cricket,” he continued. “I definitely won’t conquer it, but I am going to give it my best to learn each and every day and try and get better. You learn from your mistakes throughout your journey and you find a way to get better,” Nathan Lyon added.

Nathan Lyon discusses Australia’s past performance in India in 2023:

Australia’s two-decade wait for a series victory in the peninsula continued when they travelled to India as the No. 1 rated team in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings. The four-match series ended with a 2-1 victory for The Men in Blue. But even though they started off with a 2-0 deficit, the visitors showed incredible grit. Lyon bemoaned the team’s failure during the second innings of the second Test in Delhi.

“In Delhi, we panicked for 45 minutes with the bat, and that put us well and truly behind the eight-ball. We learned from that and we improved in Indore. The back-end of the series I am really proud about,” he continued. “If we had identified the bigger moments quicker than what India did a couple of months ago I feel like we would have been in good shape to win that series, but in the end, India was too good,” Nathan Lyon told AAP.

The WTC final between India and Australia will begin on June 7 at The Oval in London.
