IND vs AUS: 3 Deserving Players Who Missed Out In India’s Test Squad for Australia.  The BCCI, on Friday, announced India’s Test squad for the Australia series which will decide the fate of the ICC World Test Championship Final 2023. Rohit Sharma will be leading the side in the 4-match Test series which will commence on February 09.

Australia are on top of the World Test Championship Points Table, while Team India sits at the 2nd spot followed by Sri Lanka and South Africa. The hosts will have to win 3 out of the 4 matches in the Border-Gavaskar trophy to qualify for the WTC final alongside the Aussies.

India Test squad for Australia first 2 Tests- IND vs AUS- Rohit Sharma (C), KL Rahul (vc), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KS Bharat (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat, Suryakumar Yadav.

Mitchell Starc has been ruled out of the first Test of the series and Peter Handscomb is also facing a race against time to be fit for the series. The four Tests will be played in Nagpur, Delhi, Dharamshala, and Ahmedabad respectively followed by a 3-match ODI series between the two sides as part of their preparation for the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Prithvi Shaw, who has so far appeared in five Test matches for India, most recently against Australia on December 17–19, 2020 in Adelaide, regained his form after struggling in the first four games of the Ranji Trophy 2022–23 campaign.

Prithvi Shaw had set the second-highest individual score In Ranji Trophy history with 379-run innings for Mumbai against Assam. He was selected in Indian team again for the upcoming T20Is against New Zealand but could’ve been recalled also for the first two IND vs AUS Tests.

Prithvi Shaw averages 42.37 in Tests with 1 ton and 2 fifties in 5 Tests amassing 339 runs, while in First Class, he averages 51.75 with 12 tons and 15 fifties amassing 3623 runs in 41 matches.

Sarfaraz Khan​ continued his dream run in Ranji Trophy 2022-2023 as he slammed his 12th first-class ton and 9th for Mumbai. Sarfaraz Khan, who was coming off a bumper season of 982 runs in the last edition of the Ranji Trophy has been hailed to make it to the Indian team for the Australian series but he was ignored again for the first two IND vs AUS Tests.

Sarfaraz Khan had a bumper season in Ranji Trophy 2021-22 being the highest run-getter scoring 982 runs at an average of 122.75 in nine innings. He has amassed 3380 runs in 36 FC games averaging 80.47 with as many as 12 tons and 9 fifties.

Sarfaraz Khan scored 928 runs in the 2019-20 edition of the Ranji Trophy and recorded 982 runs in the 2021-22 edition. In January 2020, in the 2019–20 Ranji Trophy match against Uttar Pradesh, Sarfaraz Khan scored his maiden triple century in first-class cricket.

Abhimanyu Easwaran

The 27-year-old India A skipper from Bengal, Abhimanyu Easwaran has a decent record in T20s too apart from First Class and List A cricket. He averages 47.43 in 81 First class games and 46.24 in 78 List A games. He has 20 FC tons and 7 List A tons. He could’ve been selected for the first two IND vs AUS Tests.

He has notched up 6024 FC and 3376 List A runs but is yet to debut for the national team. In T20s too, he has amassed 728 runs in 27 matches averaging 38.31 and has 1 ton and 3 fifties to his name. He could’ve been selected in the place of inconsistent KL Rahul for the first two IND vs AUS Tests. He is in great form, having scored 122(against Services), 141 and 157 (against Bangladesh A), 170 (against Nagaland), and 165, 82* (against Uttarakhand) in consecutive games.
