Rohit Sharma will be leading the side in the 4-match Test series which will commence on February 09.

Australia are on top of the World Test Championship Points Table, while Team India sits at the 2nd spot followed by Sri Lanka and South Africa. The hosts will have to win 3 out of the 4 matches in the Border-Gavaskar trophy to qualify for the WTC final alongside the Aussies.

Rishabh Pant is injured after a road accident and will miss most of 2023 including all 4 Tests in the Border Gavaskar Trophy IND vs AUS Test series. Ishan Kishan and KS Bharat have been included as keepers for the first 2 Tests. However, both are inexperienced and uncapped and the likes of Wriddhiman Saha or Dinesh Karthik should’ve been recalled for Australia is a strong opposition and their experience should’ve come in handy.

Ishan Kishan averages 38.76 in 48 First Class games with 6 tons and 16 fifties amassing 2985 runs. KS Bharat may officially debut in the forthcoming IND vs AUS 4 match Test series. He will replace Rishabh Pant who was badly injured in a road accident on Friday, December 30.

KS Bharat has amassed 4707 runs in 86 first-class games averaging 37.95 playing for Andhra with 9 tons and 27 fifties. KS Bharat replaced Wriddhiman Saha behind the stumps after the latter complained of stiffness in his neck ahead of the start of play on Day 3 of the Kanpur Test between India and New Zealand on November 2021 and he took 3 catches behind the stumps.

Suryakumar Yadav

The likes of batters Abhimanyu Easwaran, Priyank Panchal, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Yash Dhull, and Sarfaraz Khan deserve an opportunity and some of them should’ve been picked in IND vs AUS Test series.

Suryakumar Yadav has played 79 first-class games amassing 5549 runs averaging 44.75 with 14 tons and 28 fifties to his name. He received his maiden Test team call-up for the Test series in England tour in 2021. Prithvi Shaw and Sarfaraz Khan were surprisingly ignored for IND vs AUS first 2 Tests despite stunning Ranji Trophy forms.

Prithvi Shaw had scored an incredible 379 off 383 in the Ranji Trophy-the second-highest Ranji Trophy score of all time, while Sarfaraz Khan finished as the leading run scorer in the Ranji Trophy last season. In the ongoing 2022–23 season, he has already scored two centuries in five matches played so far.

Sarfaraz Khan’s first-class batting average is more than 80. He has scored more than 900 runs in the last two Ranji Trophy seasons. But despite all this, he was not considered. BCCI surprised everyone by including Suryakumar Yadav in the IND vs AUS Test team while ignoring Sarfaraz Khan once again.

KL Rahul

Abhimanyu Easwaran deserved an opportunity as an opener in the IND vs AUS 4-match Test series in place of inconsistent KL Rahul, who is struggling with form. KL Rahul averages 34.26 in 45 Tests where he managed 2604 runs. He could score only 57 runs in 4 innings in the recent Bangladesh tour averaging only 14.25 but had won both Tests as a stand-in skipper.

The likes of Priyank Panchal, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Yash Dhull, and Sarfaraz Khan deserve an opportunity and it is to be seen how long the new selection committee will persist with experienced cricketers who are out of form or inconsistent or needs needed rest for playing all 3 formats.
