Former India National Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batter Saba Karim believes that the time has come for Team India to look beyond Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami and establish a new pool of speedsters.

Jasprit Bumrah is out with a back injury for an indefinite period of time and India sorely missed his services in the Asia Cup 2022 and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. Shami, on the other hand, sustained a shoulder injury ahead of the Bangladesh ODIs and got ruled out of the series. He will reportedly also miss the Test series against Bangladesh.

Speaking to India News, Karim said that the premier pacers Bumrah and Shami are frequently getting injured and India need to create a new pool of pace bowlers.

“The frequency with which Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami are getting injured, the time has come for India to create a new pool of fast bowlers. We need to look beyond them as well. Same with spinners. Who will be our three top quality spinners in ODIs? Chahal, Axar, Sundar? If yes, then keep playing with them. The time to try out people is gone,” the former Indian selector said.

Why have you taken Rajat Patidar and Rahul Tripathi to Bangladesh? – Saba Karim

Karim also questioned the selection of “T20 specialist” Rahul Tripathi in the ODI squad for the Bangladesh tour and urged the selectors to finalise India’s core.

“Why have you taken Rajat Patidar and Rahul Tripathi to Bangladesh? What has Tripathi done in ODIs? He is a T20 specialist, but you have picked him in the one-day team. I don’t think he will play. The new selection committee and management must first decide the core team,” Karim told India News.

India National Cricket Team, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, lost the first ODI against Bangladesh by 1 wicket and the second ODI by 5 runs in Mirpur to concede the series 0-2.

The dead rubber third and final ODI will be played at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Saturday, December 10. The Men In Blue will be without the services of injured Rohit Sharma, Kuldeep Sen and Deepak Chahar in the last ODI.
