Salman Butt, a former captain of Pakistan, feels that Ishan Kishan is not in competition with KL Rahul, the current Indian ODI wicketkeeper.

He believes that Rahul can still make the ODI selection just based on his batting.

Salman Butt believes that Ishan’s performance has put more pressure on players like Rishabh Pant and Shikhar Dhawan because the kid is capable of opening the batting and keeping wickets.

Here is what Salman Butt had to say about Ishan Kishan’s knock and its effects in a video posted to his YouTube channel:

“I don’t believe Ishan Kishan will have competition from KL Rahul, who can also bat exclusively. He is undoubtedly competing for a slot with Pant and other wicketkeeper alternatives, though. After Ishan’s double hundred, even openers like Shikhar Dhawan might find themselves further down the food chain.”

“These performances don’t happen every day”: Salman Butt

Salman Butt also praised Virat Kohli for breaking the ODI century curse and achieving his 72nd international century after more than three years. Ishan’s double hundred was made possible in large part by Kohli, who was able to calm the youngster down by talking to him.

“Virat Kohli’s presence at the other end was crucial, as he brought reassurance to Ishan as the latter approached his double century. These types of performances are unique, and Ishan’s was just remarkable. Even Kohli got a century, and while it came late in the series, it will act as a confidence boost for them going forward.”

Despite the 2-1 series loss, India’s dominating 227-run victory in Chattogram will provide them with some much-needed momentum moving into the opening Test, which starts on December 14.
