IND vs BAN: "KL Rahul And Rishabh Pant Will Have To Compete For A Place": Dinesh Karthik On India's Starting XI For The First ODI vs Bangladesh

In the upcoming three-match ODI series against Bangladesh, wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik predicts that KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant will have to battle it out for a spot in India’s starting XI.

Rahul is most likely to be given a position in the Indian middle order for ODIs, according to Karthik.

Given that Pant just arrived in Bangladesh after a long trip from New Zealand, he made the point that the right-handed hitter will be chosen over Pant for the first ODI. During a conversation on Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik said these things and suggested:

“No. 5 is where we need to talk and argue a little bit. KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant will compete for the position. “I am confident that KL Rahul will play.” Rishabh Pant has probably just landed after a lengthy flight from New Zealand, so acclimation is certainly a factor. KL Rahul will be an effective middle-order batsman in the 50-over World Cup.”

Notably, Pant was out of form during the Men in Blue’s recent ODI series against New Zealand. The southpaw only allowed 25 runs in two innings, finishing with a 12.50 Average.

Dinesh Karthik continued by saying that Shreyas Iyer’s outstanding batting efforts in ODI cricket have demonstrated his mettle. For the 50-over matches in Bangladesh, he predicted that the player will be India’s No. 4.

The seasoned cricketer said, though, that when Suryakumar Yadav returns, things might be a little different. Once Suryakumar rejoins the team, Karthik predicted that Shreyas’ batting position would change. Dinesh Karthik added:

“I know his performances are numerous, and every time you give him a chance, he’s shown to be a match-winner. For this series, he will start at No. 4. But we must acknowledge that Suryakumar Yadav is missing. Where will he be batting? As they play more bilateral series, these questions will be solved.”

Shreyas’ batting performances in the ODI series in New Zealand garnered him a lot of attention. He finished as India’s top scorer in the match with 129 runs from two innings.
