Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the 2nd Test between India and Bangladesh which was supposed to take place from December 22 at the Shere Bangla Stadium in Dhaka. Sharma, who was ruled out of the 3rd and final ODI of the series and also from the first Test has reportedly not recovered from his thumb injury.

Rohit Sharma sustained the injury while fielding in the 2nd ODI of the series against Bangladesh, wherein, he played a blistering knock but couldn’t help India cross the finishing line. Now with Rohit Sharma being ruled out, KL Rahul will assume the captaincy responsibilities with him and Shubman Gill opening the innings for Team India.

Rohit Sharma Ruled Out Of The Dhaka Test

As per reports in Cricbuzz, “The India skipper, who had missed the first Test in Chattogram, will no longer be traveling to Dhaka. Vice-captain KL Rahul will continue to lead the team in his absence in the second and final Test of the series which India leads 1-0.”

“The news of Rohit’s unavailability emerged on Monday (December 19) after it was found that the skipper’s thumb, which was injured during the second ODI of the ongoing tour, has not fully healed. He seems to be suffering from a little bit of stiffness. Considering the important assignments ahead for the Indian team, the BCCI, the selection committee, and the team management have decided not to risk him at this stage,” the report further stated.

“It is learnt that Rohit, currently in Mumbai, would have managed to bat through the Test but concerns remained over the risk involved while fielding. The medical team and the team management felt that injury could get serious on the field if he gets hurt again on that thumb. The immediate impression is that he will be available for the white ball series (three T20Is and three ODIs) against Sri Lanka starting on January 3,” concluded the report.

The Men in Blue have already won the first Test against Bangladesh. They beat the hosts by 188 runs in the first Test which was played in Chittagong. Kuldeep Yadav was awarded the Man of the Match for his 5-fer in the first innings and amazing display of bowling in the second innings.

Cheteshwar Pujara was another big positive to have emerged out of the first Test as he scored important runs for the team in both innings. In the second innings, he also scored a century, which came in, after almost 1500 days. Shubaman Gill also scored his maiden Test Hundred in the second innings of the first Test against Bangladesh.
