The Indian cricket team got off to a poor start to their tour of Bangladesh, losing by one wicket in the first ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Sunday, December 4, conceding a crucial 1-0 lead to the hosts in a three-match series. Virat Kohli’s childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma, has criticized Team India’s bowling as well as Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.

Batting first, the Men in Blue could manage only 186 runs in 41.2 overs. KL Rahul shone with 73 off 70 balls, but the rest of the batsmen were disappointed with their performances as none of them scored 30 runs. Shakib Al Hasan took five wickets for 36 runs in his spell, while Ebadot Hossain took four wickets for 47 runs.

India kept things tight and reduced Bangladesh to 136/9 in 39.3 overs, but they were unable to pick up the final wicket. Mehdi Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman put on an unbeaten 51-run partnership for the tenth wicket and helped the hosts chase down the target with four overs to spare. Hasan was named Man of the Match for his unbeaten 38 off 39 balls, including four boundaries and two sixes.

Too Much Experimentation Is Going On – Rajkumar Sharma

Speaking on India News, Rajkumar Sharma described the performance of the bowlers and captains in the death overs as “unacceptable.” While praising Bangladesh, Sharma criticized India for losing the game from a seemingly unbeatable position.

“Agreed that India’s bowlers are not that experienced. But if you cannot get the No.11 out, then it’s a big cause for concern. Such kind of captaincy and bowling is not acceptable. There are no words to describe this loss.”

The 57-year-old remarked that the Men in Blue are losing focus because they are trying too many things, and he urged India to play with a proper strategy. He said, “Too much experimentation is going on. Two different teams are playing at the same time. India need to play like a settled outfit with a proper strategy. They need to have a template in place. Do they want to be 60/0 after 10 overs or 80/3? Players’ roles need to be defined, and they need to be given that clarity and confidence.”

India will take on Bangladesh in a second ODI and must-win match to keep the series alive at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Wednesday, December 7.
