IND vs BAN: “Zakir Hasan Showed Great Application, Played Spinners Really Well” – Aakash Chopra Lauds Bangladesh Debutant

Former India National Cricket Team batter Aakash Chopra was impressed with the performance of debutant Zakir Hasan in the first Test against India National Cricket Team at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

The 24-year-old Zakir Hasan scored his maiden Test century in the 4th innings of the match to become the fourth Bangladesh National Cricket Team batter to smash a Test century on debut after Aminul Islam, Mohammad Ashraful and Abul Hasan.

He showed great temperament and scored 100 runs off 224 balls, including 12 fours and 1 six, before being cleaned up by Ravichandran Ashwin in the 79th over of the innings.

Speaking on his official YouTube channel after Day 4, Aakash Chopra praised Zakir for showing great maturity under pressure against a quality Indian bowling attack. He stated:

“It’s not easy when your team has been bundled out for cheap in the first innings and you’re batting against a quality opposition under pressure only to survive. But Zakir Hasan showed great application, played the spinners really well and was also decent against the pacers. This is good news for Bangladesh cricket as they need such batters to take their cricket forward.”

At stumps on Day 4, Bangladesh were at 272/6 while chasing an enormous target of 513 runs. Meanwhile, the cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra lauded the Bangla Tigers for fighting back strong in the last innings of the match. He said:

“The best thing about Test cricket is that you can’t take anything for granted. Bangladesh finally are showing some fight and have been determined in their batting. But it might be a case of too little too late as India hadn’t scored 500 runs in the first innings. So if Bangladesh would have shown such an application in the first innings, we could have had a more interesting match situation right now.”

Bangladesh lost the first Test against India by a huge margin of 188 runs. On Day 5, India wrapped up the match in 50 minutes. Mohammed Siraj dismissed Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Kuldeep Yadav castled Shakib Al Hasan. The last two wickets were bagged by Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel and the Bangla Tigers were bundled out for 324.
