The Men in Blue have been bolstered with the return of their main senior players and would be looking to end the year on a high. Bangladesh meanwhile, have been dealt a severe blow as captain Tamim Iqbal has been ruled out of the series due to injury while fast bowler Taskin Ahmed is all set to miss the first ODI because of a recurring back issue.

Litton Das will be the batsman to watch out for Bangladesh in this series. He is the highest run-getter for the team in ODIs this year, amassing 500 runs in 10 games at an average of 62.50. Afif Hossain (335 runs in 12 games at an average of 55.83) and Mamudullah (299 runs in 12 appearances at 59.80) have also done well. Mushfiqur Rahim has struggled with the bat this year, but his experience will still be handy in the middle order.

Bangladesh have appointed wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das the skipper of the team for the upcoming three-match ODI series against India. The decision was taken after it was confirmed that Tamim Iqbal has been ruled out of the exciting contest with a groin injury. Litton Das has led Bangladesh only once before in a T20I game against New Zealand when Mahmadullah got injured.

With Taskin Ahmed missing the first game, the onus will now be on Mustafizur Rahman (12 wickets at an economy of 4.35 in 11 ODIs in 2022), Shakib Al Hasan (8 wickets in 6 matches at 4.24), and Hasan Mahmud to deliver the goods against India’s mighty batters.

Bangladesh will be boosted with the return of Shakib Al Hasan for the three-match ODI series against India. Shakib Al Hasan returns after having opted out of the ODI leg of the Zimbabwe tour in July-August earlier this year.

Mosaddek Hossain

The most notable names missing are Mosaddek Hossain and Taijul Islam. Mosaddek Hossain’s poor form in the recent T20Is has cost him a place in the ODI squad. In the recently-concluded 2022 T20 World Cup, the 26-year-old scored only 38 runs in five matches an average of 9.50.

Ebadot Hossain, who made his 50-over debut in the final ODI against Zimbabwe, retains his place in the squad. Yasir Ali’s form in the ongoing Bangladesh Cricket League One-Day tournament has helped him find a place amongst the 16 players.

Squad: Litton Das (c), Anamul Haque, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Afif Hossain, Yasir Ali, Mehidy Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Ebadot Hossain, Nasum Ahmed, Mahmudullah, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Shoriful Islam.

Litton Das will lead Bangladesh in the three-match ODI series against India. Captain Tamim Iqbal will spend three weeks on the sidelines after suffering a groin injury. The left-handed opener is also doubtful for the 1st Test later this month.

Meanwhile, pacer Taskin Ahmed is ruled out of the first ODI against India on Sunday. Instead, Pacer Shoriful Islam has been included in the ODI team.

He has another chance to impress the selectors in the upcoming ODI series. He has managed only 189 runs in 13 ODIs averaging 14.54 after debuting way back in the 2018 Asia Cup in ODIs.
