The Men in Blue have been bolstered with the return of their main senior players and would be looking to end the year on a high. Bangladesh meanwhile, have been dealt a severe blow as captain Tamim Iqbal has been ruled out of the series due to injury while fast bowler Taskin Ahmed is all set to miss the first ODI because of a recurring back issue.

Litton Das will be the batsman to watch out for Bangladesh in this series. He is the highest run-getter for the team in ODIs this year, amassing 500 runs in 10 games at an average of 62.50. Afif Hossain (335 runs in 12 games at an average of 55.83) and Mamudullah (299 runs in 12 appearances at 59.80) have also done well. Mushfiqur Rahim has struggled with the bat this year, but his experience will still be handy in the middle order.

Bangladesh have appointed wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das the skipper of the team for the upcoming three-match ODI series against India. The decision was taken after it was confirmed that Tamim Iqbal has been ruled out of the exciting contest with a groin injury. Litton Das has led Bangladesh only once before in a T20I game against New Zealand when Mahmadullah got injured.

With Taskin Ahmed missing the first game, the onus will now be on Mustafizur Rahman (12 wickets at an economy of 4.35 in 11 ODIs in 2022), Shakib Al Hasan (8 wickets in 6 matches at 4.24), and Hasan Mahmud to deliver the goods against India’s mighty batters.

After fielding their second-string side on the tour of New Zealand, India will be happy to welcome Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul to their squad. Rohit Sharma has scored 171 runs in 6 ODIs in 2022 at an average of 34.20 with 2 half-centuries and would be eager to get some solid scores under his belt in this series.

Virat Kohli, too, hasn’t had the greatest of years in ODIs, scoring just 175 runs at an average of 21.87. However, the star Indian batsman has regained his touch in recent months in T20Is (Asia Cup 2022 and T20 World Cup 2022) and one can expect some big scores from him in this series.

Shreyas Iyer is in sensational touch and is India’s best ODI batsman currently by some distance. The right-hander has slammed 566 runs in 11 ODIs at an average of 62.88 with 1 century and 5 half-centuries in 2022. KL Rahul is expected to take up the No.5 slot as he averages 56.62 in that position from 10 ODIs.

Umran Malik (in place of injured Mohammed Shami), Mohammed Siraj, Deepak Chahar, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar are likely to make India’s bowling unit. Mohammed Siraj has been impressive in ODIs this year, taking 12 wickets at an economy of 4.45. Washington Sundar proved his all-round credentials in New Zealand where he shined as a lower-order batter. The pitches in Bangladesh should suit his bowling.

Umran Malik has been named as the replacement of injured Mohammed Shami in India’s ODI squad for Bangladesh, announced BCCI on Saturday. Mohammed Shami was ruled out of the three-match ODI series after sustaining a shoulder injury suffered during a training session in the lead-up to the series. He didn’t travel to Bangladesh with the rest of the Indian players on December 1. The veteran seamer is currently at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

Chasing an ordinary target of 106 runs, the Bangla Tigers were bowled out for 58 in the second ODI of the India tour of Bangladesh in June 2014.
