Cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar heaped praise on Suryakumar Yadav for his fabulous knock against England in the third T20I in Nottingham. While India’s top batting order fell early in the 216-run chase at the Trent Bridge on Sunday (July 10), Suryakumar lifted the hopes with his pyrotechnics.

Suryakumar took the attack to the England bowlers and played his shots with sheer elegance to make batting look simple than anything. Suryakumar pummelled 14 fours and six sixes during his 55-ball 117 that kept England away from the game until the penultimate over, where Moeen Ali was successful in having the fiery Indian batter caught at long-off.

It was a memorable hundred by Suryakumar Yadav for so many reasons: Sanjay Manjrekar

In hindsight of the match, Suryakumar’s sparkling and maiden T20I hundred went in vain as India fell 17 runs short of England’s 215. The Mumbai player joined the likes of Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda to score a T20I century for India.

“It was a memorable hundred for so many reasons, one was obviously the strike rate, just the class of the innings and how no bowler in the world today has any answers to Suryakumar Yadav. I don’t think anyone knows where to bowl to this guy,” Manjrekar told Sports18.

“You saw the standing ovation that he got, not from the Indian supporters so much as the English supporters because that’s something you take into account.

“England cricket fans are very unique in the sense that if they see the quality, even if their team loses they don’t care so much about it. Them standing up to Suryakumar Yadav showed how phenomenal he was,” he added.

Suryakumar is also part of India’s squad for the three-match ODI series against England starting on Tuesday (July 12) at The Oval in London. Suryakumar could potentially bat at No.3 for India in the first ODI after reports suggested that senior player Virat Kohli could miss the game due to a groin strain.
