Former England captain Michael Vaughan said if senior Indian batter Virat Kohli manages to cross the 30-run mark in the rescheduled fifth Test against England then nothing would stop him from accomplishing his 71st international hundred.

It has been around two and a half years and the question is on every cricket fan’s mind – when will Kohli register another three-figure mark in his international career. Kohli scored his last century against Bangladesh during the Day-Night Test at Eden Gardens in November 2019.

Since then Kohli played 17 Tests, 21 ODIs and 25 T20 Internationals but still, he is in search of his 71st international hundred. He is only behind Australia’s Ricky Ponting (71) and Indian batting great Sachin Tendulkar (100) in the list of most international hundreds.

Virat Kohli’s flashback to Edgbaston ton in 2018

Kohli kicked off the five-match Test series during India’s tour of England in 2018 with an incredible 149 at Edgbaston, the same venue for the one-off Test between the two teams this week. Kohli was the lone warrior for India as their innings folded up on 274 in the first innings.

Kohli scored 51 in the second inning but it turned out to go in vain as India failed to chase a modest target of 193 and fell short by 31 runs.

I reckon Virat Kohli is going to get those three figures: Michael Vaughan

Vaughan believes Kohli can replicate a similar knock of 2018 in the series-decider match against England and asked the former Indian skipper to get past 30 runs in order to reach the much-anticipated three-figure score.

“The Indian player to look out for at Edgbaston this week is Virat Kohli. Just go back a few years when he produced one of the greatest Test match centuries on this ground. I think he’s due. When you look back, how long has it been since he got three figures,” Vaughan said on Cricbuzz.

“It’s been a long, long while for Virat Kohli, if he can get to 30, I reckon he’s gonna get those three figures that he’s been desperately wanting for such a long period of time. So, Virat Kohli, the Indian player to look out for,” he further said.

India are leading the five-match Test series 2-1 and will aim to win their first Test series in England since 2007 under Rahul Dravid, who is their current head coach.
